Crowning a hilltop just outside Montalcino, Castello di Velona is a medieval fortress dating to the 11th–12th centuries, overlooking the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The castle’s 45 accommodations are divided between two distinct settings. The Castle Suites occupy the historic heart of the fortress, where original terracotta floors, exposed beams, and vaulted ceilings preserve its heritage. In the newer wing, the UNESCO View Rooms & Suites pair contemporary design with outdoor spaces and sweeping countryside views. Select categories offer panoramic terraces, private pools, and bathtubs filled with natural spring water.
At the heart of the experience is OLISPA, a spa of over 1,500 square meters fed by a spring that flows at approximately 36°C. Guests can move between indoor and outdoor thermal pools, a sauna, a Turkish bath, emotional showers, and an ice waterfall, all set against the rolling hills of the valley.
Dining celebrates the land. Settimo Senso serves contemporary Tuscan cuisine with seasonal tasting menus and Montalcino-focused wine pairings, indoors or on its panoramic terrace. Dolce Vita offers relaxed poolside lunches and aperitivo, while Brunello, an intimate private venue, hosts exclusive dinners and celebrations.
The estate produces its own Brunello di Montalcino and organic extra virgin olive oil, and the concierge curates more than 50 seasonal experiences, from wine and gastronomy to culture and the outdoors. The castle is also available for destination weddings, private events, and exclusive use.
