A refined private journey through the wild heart of East Africa, where primates, predators, and powerful rivers reveal themselves at an unhurried pace. From the thundering waters of Murchison Falls and the chimpanzee-filled forests of Kibale to the savannahs of Queen Elizabeth and the misty slopes of Bwindi, each day opens onto a different side of the Pearl of Africa.
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where your private guide greets you and transfers you to your hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria. The remainder of the day is yours to settle in and ease into the gentle rhythm of Uganda before the journey begins.
Set out through Kampala toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to the white rhinos reintroduced to Uganda. Accompanied by expert rangers, track these magnificent animals on foot for a rare and intimate encounter. In the afternoon, continue north to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest, arriving at your lodge in time to enjoy the evening above the Nile.
Rise early for a game drive across golden savannah, Borassus palm forest, and grassland stretching toward Lake Albert, where the Albert Nile heads north. Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and Uganda kobs roam the plains, while the skies host secretary birds, fish eagles, and carmine bee-eaters. In the afternoon, a boat cruise carries you upstream past basking crocodiles and hippos to the foot of Murchison Falls, where the mighty Nile forces its way through a gorge just seven meters wide.
Journey south toward Kibale Forest National Park, either by a scenic flight to Kasese or by road through rolling hills and emerald tea plantations, pausing in the charming town of Fort Portal along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, where optional experiences include a crater lake walk, a visit to a local tea estate, or time with a nearby community.
Kibale is home to one of the largest chimpanzee populations in Africa, and today is devoted to them. Meet your ranger guide at dawn for the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, entering the forest as the chimps wake in their nests and spending the morning alongside a single family as they feed, play, groom, and rest. In the afternoon, an optional guided walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary reveals colorful birdlife and rare monkeys among the papyrus.
Travel south to Queen Elizabeth National Park, crossing the equator along the way. Stretching from the crater-dotted foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains to the shores of Lake Edward, Uganda’s most celebrated park spans savannah, wetlands, and lowland forest. Settle into your lodge before an evening game drive as the light softens over the plains.
Begin with an early morning game drive in search of lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and the elusive giant forest hog, along with a remarkable variety of primates. In the afternoon, glide along the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake George and Lake Edward, where hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and countless water birds gather along the banks in one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife displays.
Head south through the remote Ishasha sector, renowned for its tree-climbing lions resting in the branches of fig trees. Continue into the green highlands to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home of the mountain gorillas. The ancient rainforest also shelters chimpanzees, elephants, and a wealth of rare birdlife.
Rise early for the highlight of the journey. Led by an experienced ranger, trek through dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family, a walk that may take between two and six hours. Spending time in the presence of these gentle giants is one of the most profound wildlife experiences on earth. Later in the day, visit the Ride 4 a Woman project in Buhoma, a community initiative empowering local women through craft and enterprise.
After breakfast, transfer to Kihihi Airstrip for a scenic flight back to Entebbe, with sweeping views over the hills, forests, and farmlands of southwestern Uganda. Upon arrival, connect to your onward flight, bringing your Ugandan journey to a graceful close, with memories of gorillas in the mist, chimpanzees at dawn, and the timeless power of the Nile.
